The Mayflower's destination was Virginia, but the boat landed at Plymouth, Massachusetts. A passenger's journal for Dec. 19, 1620, explains: "We could not now take time for further search or consideration; our victuals being much spent, especially our beer ..."*Figures.
Thanks to the foresight of the Founding Fathers and the bravery of the revolutionaries, American citizens today aren't required to wear hats like these:

hope your 4th was a nice one!
K & S - yours too. Kimie had a class to attend, so just another Sunday for me.
man, the Queen looks pissed!
I wish I could celebrate the Fourth forcing Glenn Beck to actually read Thomas Paine's "Rights of Man" so he would understand that Paine would likely not support Beck's ideology.
Also, I have direct lineage to two Mayflower passengers, John Alden and Priscilla Mullins. That makes this Warner Bros. cartoon even funnier for me.
And just WHAT is wrong with those hats, pray tell?
Arkonbey - arms sales are down and she wants a new hat like Dudley Do-right has.
Thanks for the link. That's a great connection to American history you have.
Moody - Uh, nothing. They're nice... in an Alice in Wonderland sort of way.
