Web of Love

Inspired by the Moody Minstrel's picture of a beautiful kogane-gumo (gold spider) on its web, I've been paying more attention to spider webs, which at this time of year are plentiful around here. The other day, after a rain, I noticed a large web of about 60 cm (2 feet) that is suspended on a span of perhaps two meters running from our garage roof down to a wall. Covered with water droplets, it stood out like a diamond tiara against the dark background. I have not found the spider to compliment it on its artful engineering feat.

Ah....
Those are so beautiful when they are covered with dew or raindrops like that.

They are also such a royal pain in the behindermost to blunder into while walking across your yard.

That's when I do this:
Arachnoleptic fit (n.): The frantic dance performed just after you've accidentally walked through a spider web.

Yuksss... I hate spider..

One day, Tosca, my not so friendy cat, who think I am her prince.. brought back one of her trumps from the garden.

A big died spider which she killed.. and guess where she put it..

AT MY PILLOW... faint...

Robin- that would be pretty yucky I'll admit.

I knew a woman whose german shepherd would also bring her "presents" and lay them on her pillow - once she brought a dead rat!

On a tangent - I have a file called spider SAV, apparently compressed (zipped) folder 1.91 kb. I send it to the trashcan and the next day it is back. Every day I send it to the trashcan and it comes back! I can't even open it anyway! Help! I think it was to do with those pics of spiders on acid, etc.!

Wendy - I've been using a Mac for four years now, so I'm not up to speed with Windows issues, but from what I've read, this file could just be a saved game of spider solitare which would reappear automatically everytime a game was played or launched.

OR - it could be part of a virus called "BugBear".

You need to make sure your anti-virus program is up to date and run it to remove any viruses on your computer. Just go to the website for your anti-virus - MacCaffee, Symantic (Norton), what ever - and get the latest update. If you aren't running anti-virus software, you can usually download a free trial copy.

Good luck.

Solved! I mentioned it to Peceli about the spider file and he said it's the card game he plays every day! So each time he finishes a game, the file pops up in My Documents! I guess we need to talk to one another more often.

funny postscript to my Jamaica Bay paddle - we were out for a number of hours. During that time, a spider decided that Sebago club member J's car-top kayak rack was the perfect spot to spin a web. We all actually felt sort of bad for the spider - all that work & probably not enough time to catch so much as a gnat before it got wrecked.

shoot, I should've taken a picture.
